God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain
God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain
I ASKED GOD FOR STRENGTH THAT I MIGHT ACHIEVE,
I WAS MADE WEAK THAT I MIGHT LEARN HUMBLY TO OBEY.
I ASKED GOD FOR POWER, THAT I MIGHT HAVE THE PRAISE OF MEN,
I WAS GIVEN WEAKNESS, THAT I MIGHT NEED GOD.
I ASKED GOD FOR HEALTH, THAT I MIGHT DO GREATER THINGS,
I WAS GIVEN INFIRMITY, THAT I MIGHT DO BETTER THINGS.
I ASKED FOR ALL THINGS THAT I MIGHT ENJOY LIFE,
I WAS GIVEN LIFE, THAT I MIGHT ENJOY ALL THINGS.
I GOT NOTHING THAT I ASKED FOR BUT EVERYTHING I HAD HOPED FOR.
ALMOST DESPITE MYSELF, MY UNSPOKEN PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED.
I AM, AMONG ALL MEN, MOST RICHLY BLESSED.
"All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

C.S. Lewis
"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain."
To me, this is without a doubt, one of the most special passages in the whole Bible. This is the scripture that was prophesied over me when I accepted Jesus into my heart, and it's the one passage that I have had memorized since I was 14 years old. Man, there were times when I was in dire straits and I would just pray this over and over, it was the only scripture I knew by heart; it would remind me Who I belonged to, and that despite all the things I'd done and the people I'd hurt, He still loved me. Surely without Jesus, I would not even be here today, there is no question. And I'm grateful. Truly, with my whole heart, I never believed I would live to be this age, as fucked up as it is to say, I whole-heartedly did not think I would see the age of 21. But then 21 came and went, followed by 22, then 23 - and by the time I turned 25, I was having an existential crisis. I hadn't planned for this - I had been slowly trying to off myself for years, but for some stupid reason I was still here (it felt stupid to me at the time). God had to KNOW this wasnt the plan, He was God after all, and He had assigned this life to me - He knew the things beyong my control that were sent to break me, He watched me cry alone, broken and bleeding but never said a thing. I was angry at God for allowing things to happen, and for how my life had turned out - but most of all, I was SO mad at God for making me ME, oh, how deeply I HATED myself back then. So, I picked up the pace and began to actively take myself out of this life, until one day I found myself in jail in a state far away and not a single person knew where I was - I had no car, no phone (I had been using payphones for the last few months, but they were getting harder and harder to find) and exactly $10 to my name. I found out much later from my brother that I had been missing for over 4 months - totally crazy, I had no idea it had been that long or that I was even missing.

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing."
Anyway, it was here in jail at the age of 26 that God found me again, or rather, that I found Him again, and He informed me that I was not going to be successful in killing myself, but instead, if I didn't get my crap together, I was going to have to spend my life in prison - which for me, would be a fate FAR worse than death, and I speak from experience.

... in the religious sense. As much as I hate to use the word "religious", I guess it's inevitable in this context.
A Christian testimony (often referred to simply as a "testimony") is a personal account of what God has done in a believer's life. Originating from the Latin testimonium (meaning "witness" or "evidence"), a religious testimony serves as personal proof or witness to God's presence, grace, and active work.
In Christian theology, sharing a testimony is a way to glorify God, encourage fellow believers, and share the Gospel with others by explaining how God has personally impacted your life.
While every personal story is unique, Christian testimonies generally fall into a few common categories based on their primary focus. I feel like this is a good list of the different types of testimonies that we can have and share:
* Conversion Testimony (Salvation Story): The classic account of how a person came to faith in Jesus Christ. It typically highlights life before knowing Christ, the moment or process of accepting faith, and the initial transformation that followed.
* Deliverance & Healing Testimony: Focuses on a specific event where God brought physical recovery, emotional healing, or freedom from addiction, trauma, or destructive patterns.
* Faithfulness in Trial Testimony: Details how God provided comfort, strength, and endurance through a difficult season—such as grief, financial hardship, or chronic illness—even when the circumstances didn't change immediately.
* Provisional Testimony: Centers on a concrete instance of God's timing and provision, detailing how a specific physical, spiritual, or relational need was met.
* Daily Grace / Growth Testimony: Shorter, ongoing accounts of how God is currently teaching, refining, or working through a believer in their everyday routine.
When preparing or writing out a Christian testimony, keeping it clear and centered on God helps it resonate with listeners. A traditional three-part structure works best (but obviously be yourself and this is just a basic outline):
* Before (Life Prior to Grace): Briefly describe your mindset, struggles, or perspective before experiencing God's work in that area. Keep this section realistic but avoid dwelling excessively on past mistakes.
* How (The Turning Point): Explain how God intervened. Specify what led to the realization of your need for Him, how you responded, and what steps of faith you took.
* After (The Impact & Ongoing Life): Share the changes in your heart, attitude, and daily life. Emphasize that while life isn't perfect, God's presence brings hope, peace, and direction.
I looked these up online to help you get started:
* Keep God at the Center: Frame the story around what God did rather than focusing entirely on your own actions or effort.
* Use Clear, Everyday Language: Avoid heavy church jargon or overly theological phrasing so the message remains accessible to anyone listening.
* Be Authentic and Relatable: Honest vulnerability about real struggles makes your story credible and comforting to others facing similar situations.
* Keep It Concise: Aim for a narrative that can be shared comfortably - the internet recommends this length to be about 3 to 5 minutes or around 500–700 written words. Although in all honesty, I am so wordy that I could write 700 words in just the introduction ha, but they say the recommended length helps "to maintain focus and engagement."
Remember, these are just tips and suggestions intended to help you, should you need it. At the end of the day, everyone has their own, valuable story to tell, and every person's story matters. <3
